Increasing your earnings through the Plug

Earning money through influencer marketing isn't as easy as posting any ad and calling it a day. There's a lot that goes into it; from the ad you're running, the caption you have alongside it, and even the frequency you're sharing.

Working with hundreds of influencers a day, we're lucky to be in a position where we've been able to see trends in what works—and what to avoid. Today, we wanted to share some of the most actionable advice we've learned so far, broken down by network for Snapchat and Instagram.

I'm a Snapchat Influencer

For Snapchat, we've found that the process of maximizing your earnings to be pretty straightforward.

👉 Locating the right ad
Focus on ads listed within the Highlights tab of the Plug app. Aligning ads with your theme can help boost conversions. For best results, try posting the highest converting ads currently on the Highlights page.

👉 Iterate as you go
Check your analytics each day and replace the ads with the poorest performance over the past 2-3 days. Replace them with new ads you find on the Highlights page.

👉 Match your audience
Avoid gender-specific ads that don't align with the demographic breakdown of your page.

👉 Frequency
As a general rule of thumb, add 4-5 pieces of content in between ads—this lets you keep posting ads, while keeping your content feeling fresh.

I'm an Instagram influencer

For our Instagram influencers, the process can be a bit trickier!

👉 Posting solo ads
When there are ads in the Highlights tab that closely relate to the native content you post on your page, you should post them by themselves, rather than as a 2nd slide.

👉 Native-looking ads and when to use 2nd slide posts
If there are no ads in Highlights tab that look similar to your content, then you should take the best performing ads and post them in a 2nd slide feed post.

Example 1: If you post mainly image memes and no videos, you will get the best results from a static meme style ad (image) from a campaign like Yarn or Current. If there are only videos and Titkok-style ads on the Highlights tab, you're best using those as a 2nd slide feed post.

Example 2: If you post a mix of video memes and some TikTok content: you should post the ad from Highlights that are most similar to the content you post like a TikTok-style ad.

👉  Match your theme
Try to find ads that align most with your theme as well as a content type (static memes, video content, TikTok content).

👉  Follow this flow chart
To make things as easy as possible, we've put together a what-to-post flow chart to help you decide the best ads to run. Save it as an easy reference sheet to guide what you post:
