We wanted to quickly take a moment to talk a bit about incent; what it is and why we don't allow it on the Plug platform.
What is incent?
Incentivisation (incent) is offering a reward in return for a favor/action.
Our advertisers define incent as driving traffic to a download where the users may not be downloading the app out of genuine interest in the app itself, and instead due to some sort of external motivation.
What kind of external motivation?
- Download for a follow-back
- Download for a shoutout
- Download to win an iPhone
- Support me by downloading
- Download and play with me
- Beat my high score or any specific high score
- Potential personal interaction with you as an influencer
What is wrong with incent?
If these are occurring, your followers are likely downloading for a reason besides genuine interest in the app itself. When users download not because of genuine interests, they often become bad users. When this happens, advertisers will tend to withdraw the campaign from you, or even the whole platform.
Our advertisers have put these guidelines in place because they’ve seen how external motivations hurts user quality.
We’d all like to keep our advertisers on the Plug, so please help us in keeping external motivation out of your posts.
Can I ask people to comment on my post?
Yes, you can. You are allowed to add a caption asking people to comment on your post as long as you are promoting genuine engagement in the app. This would mean, for example, asking what their favorite filter is, or what feature they’re using the most. It is important to note that the above examples of external motivation also apply to your comments; like a reward of playing with you, or that you’ll talk to them in the comments.
